Down in the Delta: With her life a mess and essentially no desire to work, lone mother Woodard boards the bus with her 2 kids to spend the summer in the Mississippi Delta, living with family members and worlking in their restaraunt. Episodic drama recoups from awkward start to better points. Woodard beams and Freeman gives one of the best acting jobs of his career. Cast includes Alfre Woodard, Al Freeman, Jr., Wesley Snipes, Mary Alice, Esther Rolle, and Loretta Devine. (111 minutes, 1998)

I Love You: Stupid, pretentiously arty journal of relation between Braga and Pereio, each of whom tries to exploit the other. Sonia, nonetheless, is pleasant to check out. Cast includes Sonia Braga, Paulo Cesar Pereio, Vera Fischer, Tarcisio Meira, Maria Lucia Dahl, and Regina Case. (104 minutes, 1981)

The Educators: A verbose and overlong, sarcastic investigation of political idealism and hypocrisy in current Germany. A set of boisterous youthful liberals (Brihl and Erceg) see themselves as 21st-century Robin Hoods, which gives them a reason to crack into the houses of the weak and infermed. Problems surface while Erceg’s lady friend (Jentsch) partakes in one of their adventures. (137 minutes, 2004)

The Gorgeous Hussy: Megastars fill the cast in this fictionalized historical drama of Peggy O’Neal, President Andrew Jackson’s secret lover. The cast is beautifully costumed in well assigned settings. The movie is based on the novel by Samuel Hopkins Joyce. Cast includes Joan Crawford, Robert Taylor, Lionel Barrymore, Franchot Tone, Melvyn Douglas, James Stewart, Alison Skipworth, Beulah Bondi, and Gene Lockhart. (102 minutes, 1936)

Foxfire: An adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel in reference to 4 high school gals who form a clique while an enigmatic lady drifter comes to town. The cast tries however they’re finished in by a terrible script that plays like an R-rated after school special. Cast includes Hedy Burress, Angelina Jolie, Jenny Lewis, Jenny Shimizu, Sarah Rosenberg, Peter Facinelli, Streak Mihok, Cathy Moriarty, Richard Beymer, and John Diehl. (102 minutes, 1996)

The Search for One-Eyed Jimmy: Oddball tale of a documentary film maker, just out of college, who returns to his old Brooklyn community and finds cinematic encouragement as his camcorder follows the track of a missing local low life. Cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Steve Buscemi, Michael Badalucco, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, Anne Meara, Jennifer Beals, Nicholas Turturro, Aida Turturro, Holt McCaIIany, Sam Rockwell, and Tony Sirico. (82 minutes, 1996)

MacArthur: Intense, look at the legend of the elaborate military chief throughout WW2 and Korean Battle. Peck is phenomenal although film doesn’t hold the punch of Patton. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Dan O’Herlihy, Ed Flanders, Sandy Kenyon, Dick O’Neill, and Craft Fleming. (130 minutes, 1977)

Lost Horizon: First half hour duplicates 1937 film scene for scene, and everything’s going well. Then we get to Shangri-La and everything goes bad. Cast includes Peter Finch, Liv Ullmann, Sally Kellerman, George Kennedy, Michael Yolk, Olivia Hussey, Bobby Van, James Shigeta, Charles Boyer, and John Gielgnd. (143 minutes, 1973)

Alfredo Alfredo: All too normal Italian comedy in regards to a milque toast who triumphs and weds a seductive female, only to remorse his conquest. Lone interest is recognizing Hoffman’s good work in this uncommon setting (with a dubbed voice!). Cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Stefania Sandrelli, Carla Gravina, Clara Colosimo, Daniele Patella, and Duilio Del Prete. (98 minutes, 1972)
