Botox A Medicine For Arthritis?

Thousands of people all over the world turn to Botox to stop the signs of aging. But did you know that this cosmetic operation may also combat arthritis?

In the past, treatment options vary depending on the type of arthritis and include Physical therapy, lifestyle changes (including exercise and weight control), medications and dietary supplements (symptomatic or targeted at the disease process causing the arthritis). Arthroplasty (joint replacement surgery) may be required in eroding forms of arthritis. But this can be avoided with botox treatments.

As a whole, studies have shown that physical exercising of the affected joint can have noticeable improvement in terms of long-term pain relief. Moreover, exercising of the arthritic joint is encouraged to maintain the health of the particular joint and the overall body of the person.

Osteoarthritis patients who experienced Botox injections reported a 50 percent or more improvement in knee pain. If other studies can repeat those results, it won’t be long before Botox becomes the next arthritis miracle cure.

Currently, Botox injections being administered to arthritis patients who don’t react to conventional medications had better results. The drug is injected into the gap between the joint and results have been promising. While Botox is expensive, the shots are seen as an ideal solution for arthritis patients who can’t experience knee surgery because of old age or frailty. Since Botox is injected immediately into the joint, it doesn’t cause stomach bleeding, hypertension, and other side effects of other traditional painkillers.

Doctors are hoping to duplicate these results in other studies but patients are already convinced that Botox works for arthritis. Studies showed that their pain and ability to move were measured during these times. There was a significant decrease in pain and improvement in physical function for those who received Botox shots. With continued research, the inflammatory joint pain will be cured once and for all.
