Lead Guitar Techniques
If you have been playing guitar for a time and you know all the guitar basics maybe you want to learn more about Lead Guitar Techniques.
Lead Guitarists always take all the glory because they have a lot of tricks to add more color, depthand texture to their sound.
Here are 3 basic Lead Guitar Techniques that you need to know if you want to become a Lead Guitar Player.
Pinch Harmonics: Lots of guitarists use pinch harmonics (a.k.a artificial harmonics or squeals) to make their sound more interesting, this is technique that is a little difficul to master at first but with practice you can make you guitar squeal like a beast.
Check this article lo learn more about Pinch Harmonics… How to Play Pinch Harmonics
Whammy Bars and Bending Strings: One of the most common Lead Guitar techniques are Bendings and use of the Whammy Bar.
You can do bendings by pushing up the guitar string while you play a note, with this you can manipulate the tone and pitch of the note, many guitar players can raise the pitch of the note 2 or 2 and a half steps.
If you use a Floyd Rose tremolo system you can manipulate the strings tension with the bar and increase or decrease the pitch of the notes several tones!
These are really great resources to any Lead Guitar Player.
Effect Pedals and Equipment: Using effect pedals can help you a lot to add textures and depth to your sound, buy all the pedals you want but remember to be tasteful when using them.
Don’t use effect pedals to cover up poor playing, lead guitar is much more than just a few tricks.
If you are really interested in Lead Guitar and you want to become a good Lead Guitar Player you will need to practice a lot and to get proper guidance, 2 or 3 tricks are not enough to make you a great guitarist.

- Let your kids learn guitar!
There are several reasons of why a kid should learn how to play guitar or any other musical instrument, in fact its really great for your children to get exposed to different kinds of art.
I started to play when i was 15 years old, but some of my friends started to play guitar at a really early age, personally i think that 10 to 12 years old is an awesome age to start playing guitar but if your kid really want to start just let him go for it at any age.
If you don’t have money for a personal teacher try to go with an Online Guitar Course, i recommend Jamorama because it comes with awesome software and 150 step by step videos.
If you want to read more about Jamorama you can read this article: Jamorama Guitar Lessons Review
3 Reasons of Why Guitar is Great for your Kids
1- Kids who play guitar or any other musical instrument use to have more general knowledge than kids who are not really close to music and arts.
Being in contact with music and arts open your kid’s mind.
2- Playing music helps your children to develop lots of skills that will help him a lot during all his life like perseverance and discipline because you can’t become a good musician over night.
Playing guitar helped me to set goals for myself and to persevere until i achieve them, when you want to learn how to play a song you have to play it over and over again, correct what you are doing wrong, learn when to stop to improve some skills and back to practice until you master it… being successful in life looks a lot like learning how to play a hard song.
3- The most awesome thing about playing guitar is jam with other people, your children will make a lot of friends who will share the same passion for music than him and some of those friendships will last for life.
I made most of my best friends from music, playing together, sharing musical knowledge, going to concerts, etc.
Ways to Teach a Kid How to Play Guitar
There are lots of ways to teach your children how to play guitar in today’s market. You can always send your children with a personal teacher or make the teacher come to your home to teach, you can also send your kids to a music school in your city.
If you have a limited budget and can’t afford music schools or personal teacher (because they use to be expensive) nowadays you can make your children learn how to play guitar with online guitar lessons, for the same price than a few hours with a personal teacher you can get a whole year of online guitar lessons.
The Online Course that i recommend is Jamorama, it’s and awesome product you can get it for just $39.95. If you want to learn why i recommend Jamorama read this article: Why Jamorama Guitar Lessons Work

July 10, 2009 by Guillermo Pareja
Today we will learn what are Minor Chords and how you can play them in your guitar. If you want to learn how to play Major Chords in guitar check Riff Church.
What are Minor Chords?
Minor Chords are chords formed by a root, a minor third and a fifth, so if we have the C scale: C (root) – D (2) – E (3) – F (4) – G (5) – A (6) – B (7) – C
We need to play “C Eb G” to have a minor chord, if we play “C E G” we will have a major chord.
Whats the difference between Major and Minor Chords?
The only difference between a major and minor chord is the Third, with minor chords you have to use the minor third and with major chords you use the major third, the difference between major and minor thirds is a half step. So again if we play C Major (C E G) and we play C Minor (C Eb G) you can see there’s only a half step difference between E and Eb.
Here you have a chart with the most common Minor Chords in guitar, learn this cause its very useful.

You can find more about Minor and Major Chords here: Learn How to Play Minor Chords in Guitar. Or if you want to learn a lot about chords, arpeggios and more check this Jamorama online guitar course review: Jamorama Guitar Lessons

Can Guitar Hero help you with real guitar?
The answer is “yes” and “no”, Guitar Hero won’t make you a Guitar God or help you to improve your guitar skills but music games like this can give you something great that will help you to become a better guitarist… they can make you feel the desire of playing a real guitar.
Years ago i have played a computer game called Frets On Fire a lot and it helped me to become a better guitarist, the game don’t do anything by itself and playing it doesn’t makes you play guitar better, but the game gave me the desire to become a better guitarist and play all the songs i played in the game in my real guitar. The game helped me to go through boring exercises cause i really wanted to improve my skills.
If you don’t play real guitar but you like games like Guitar Hero think about this… If playing a plastic guitar feels great, imagine how it would feel to play a real guitar!
Learn how to play guitar with online lessons like Jamorama or with a guitar teacher, the feeling of playing a real guitar worth it!

A lot of people argue about if its better to take Online Guitar Lessons or Guitar Lessons with a “Real” Teacher… i always answer this: “Learning guitar its up to you”.
A teacher can’t play for you and Online Guitar Lessons won’t teach you anything if you don’t practice… the more you put from yourself, the more you take.
If you don’t have time or money for a guitar teacher, there are some great guitar courses that work really great like Jamorama.
Here are the Pros and Cons of Online Guitar Lessons:
Pros:
- They’re really cheap and you can have lessons for a whole year (or even more) for less than just a few hours with a teacher.
- You can practice and study anywhere at any time, they’re ideal if you have a full time job or want to spend the day with friends, girlfriend/boyfriend, children or your family.
- Some of them like Jamorama are really great learning systems, you can learn how to play scales, chords and other techniques by playing cool classic and modern rock songs, making the learning process something fun is a MUST cause you’ll be practicing for a long time and if the lessons are boring you won’t be motivated to continue.
Now lets check the Cons.
Cons:
- If you learn just in your home you won’t be in contact with other musicians, this isn’t a real problem if you already have friends that play guitar, bass, drums or whatever.
- You can’t ask anybody for more info, but then again this is fixed if you have musician friends or if you ask in forums… its all about to get in contact with the people who know about this.
Remember this, it doesn’t really matters if you take traditional guitar lessons with a real teacher or if you take an online course, there is something more important than that… and that’s YOU.
