Admit it, you don’t treat the garage as nicely as you do any other room in your house. If you have something that you have little use for, you normally open the garage door and throw it in there. Other visits normally involve running between the car and the fridge to transfer groceries and when it comes to the summer months it is just too hot to be inside there anyway.
When it comes to the value of your home in general, don’t forget that the garage is an important part of this. We don’t look after it as much as we can and let it get into a state of disrepair. When it gets this way, cleanup can be very difficult and to make sure that the floor remains in as good condition as possible, garage sealing is sometimes seen as an investment.
Know in advance that garage sealing is a major undertaking and is not for the faint of heart. Everything will need to be removed from this room and you will need to be sure that the weather is on your side as, invariably, a lot of stuff will be piled in your driveway.
If you do it right, garage sealing will help you avoid all those nasty oil stains, oil spills, concrete dust, road salt and general street residue. It will definitely add to the value of your home, but you should also remember that there are cheaper ways to look after your floors and ones which require much less effort, as well.
Before you start garage sealing, you will need to scrub the floor with concrete cleaners and degreasers, using a high-pressure hose as well. This can be backbreaking work as you may have to treat some areas several times before you are satisfied.
You will need to allocate at least one day to the preparation of your room before you start garage sealing. This will enable you to get rid of all the pre-existing stains, including stubborn ones and to let the area dry in preparation for the next stage.
Remember that during the process of garage sealing, if you’re not careful the paint will actually stain all other surfaces that you come up against. Therefore, start from the back of the room and work forward and be particularly careful when it comes to the walls and the threshold to the driveway where you should have clean edges at all times.
As the job of garage sealing can be a significant undertaking and can be especially difficult if you are somewhat frail, make sure that the stains do not reach your floor in the first place by putting in place absorbent pads. These are specially designed to fit beneath your vehicles and will absorb any fluids, including the worst engine or transmission oil leaks. Definitely an investment.
