What makes the best business article? The business articles that prompt the reader to take action are the ones that are considered effective. So how do you convince the target market that your product is the best? How do you prove to them that your services are what they need? Why would they pick you over the next guy?

There are some quick techniques to use when writing that will help you be successful, even if you’re not the best writer in town.

When writing business articles remember to SHOPP. Spelling is the most important thing and the most easily over looked in writing. It is the easiest to check and most often forgotten. Using a spell check function through a computer’s word processor is often accurate when obviously misspelling a word.

It will correct words that are spelled wrong, but fails to point out when words are spelled right and used incorrectly. If a sentence reads, “Justin will not no the results until tomorrow,” spell check will assume the sentence is written properly. Other programs, such as free online grammar checkers, are much more reliable when it comes to proper word usage.

To check and double check spelling, it is a good idea to have someone else proofread your business articles or advertisements. The old saying goes, “Two Heads are better than one!”

Make sure commas are placed in the correct spot. Be aware that commas are commonly overused. Proper sentence structure can also be spotted when reading out loud. Words should not be stumbled over and should flow nicely.

Taking a writing course can be another benefit when writing copy for business articles. If you don’t want to pay to take a course, there are plenty of free courses available online that will be helpful. Invest in a good writer’s handbook. Keep it close by when writing and refer to it when you’re unsure of something.

Focus on saying exactly what you mean so the audience won’t have to decode the message you are trying to convey. Always remember the goal of the message and the emotions you desire the audience to have.
