Pregnancy Without Panic Attacks

Learning that you’re pregnant is one of the most special moments in a woman’s life. Having a condition like panic attacks can be a cause of worry that you don’t want to have to deal with.

A woman’s body will go through many physical changes, as well as emotional ups and downs during pregnancy. Panic attack symptoms are not given a lot of attention. They may be the result of fluctuating hormones and your physician will be able to provide more information on this.

Many women experience a sense of anxiousness while pregnant and the causes vary from person to person. It’s easy to get caught up in worrying about how you look, what the pain might be like during childbirth, and whether you’re going to be a good parent. There are so many things to consider when you’re pregnant and these thoughts can sometimes be overwhelming. Even though these are common thoughts that most pregnant women experience, it becomes an issue that needs to be addressed when the woman starts feeling like she’s losing her mind or feels out of control.

Panic attacks can feel like you’re going to faint, your heart rate increases, there can be trembling or shaking, and sweating. These symptoms are not good for the mom-to-be or the baby, so it’s a good idea to learn what you can do to get rid of panic attacks with natural techniques.

Having a panic attack while pregnant can be very scary. You don’t want to perpetuate the cycle of fear by thinking that you might have a panic attack at any time. Learning a few techniques to help alleviate anxiety before it begins may help prepare for possible episodes.

When you get into a routine of doing some kind of relaxation technique you’ll be able to rely on them if and when a panic attack occurs while you’re pregnant. Find a place where you’re comfortable and quiet. Think about something comforting and pleasant until you feel yourself calm down. Another way is to do some deep breathing exercises.

Here are some ideas to help you get in the habit of doing some relaxation techniques:

Determine a given schedule for each day when you can perform these relaxation exercises. If possible, schedule once or twice a day, whichever is most convenient for you. Then, make sure you follow your schedule.

Refrain from scheduling your relaxation practices near bedtime since sleepiness could get in the way.

Choose a relaxation technique you are most comfortable with. (No need to create more stress, right?)

Relieve Stress with Deep Breathing Exercise:

One of the easiest exercises you can for stress relief is to breath deeply. This fills your lungs with oxygen and increases circulation throughout your body. Follow this technique of deep breathing for the best results:

*While sitting in a chair, place one hand on your chest and the other on your tummy.

*While breathing through your nose enough to feel your stomach rise and your chest move slightly.

*Push the air out through your mouth as you exhale.

*Repeat the same process. Take note of the rise and fall of your lower abdomen.

Meditation, Muscle Relaxation, and Yoga:

*Lie down on the floor or bed making sure that you’re comfortable. You can start with a few deep breaths. In the exercise you’re going to create tension in each muscle group and then let it release until you feel your body relax. Starting at your feet and moving up your body, squeeze each muscle holding for a few seconds and then letting it go. Keep going until your entire body has relaxed.

*Two other methods of relieving stress are the practices of meditation and yoga. Gentle stretching along with focused visualization can help to relieve anxiety and tension.

Panic attacks during pregnancy can he handled if there is a plan in place to prevent them.

Steps You Can Take To Control Panic Attacks

August 11, 2009 by Sally K. Ross

Anxiety is a well known mood condition that occurs without a specific triggering stimulus. As such, it is distinguished from fear, which occurs in the presence of a perceived threat.

Another view is that anxiety is a “future-oriented mood state in which the experiencer is poised to cope with imminent negative events” suggesting that it is a distinction between future vs. present threats that divides anxiety and fear.

Anxiety is marked with an intensification of somatic reactions that help the organism to deal with the threat. Heart rate and blood pressure are increased, sweating is increased, blood flow to the major muscle groups is increased, while immune and digestive system functions are slowed down (the fight or flight response).

Attacks of anxiety do not only consist of physical signs. There are many emotional symptoms involved as well. Those are not limited to: “Feelings of dread or apprehension, trouble concentrating, feeling tense or jumpy, anticipating the worst, restlessness, irritability, watching (and waiting) for occurrences (and signs) or danger, and, feeling like your mind has gone blank.” There is also, “nightmares/bad dreams, obsessions about sensations, a ‘trapped in your mind’ feeling, deja vu, and an overall impression like everything is scary.”

Although there are many techniques to stop panic attacks, the most successful ones are listed below and include discovering the method that best works for you for calming your body down.

Daily exercise not only helps keep you in good shape, but it also offers an outlet in which to release much of your pent up stress and anxiety. Dedicating at least an hour a day to some form of fitness, whether it be walking around the block or cardio can do wonders for your tension and help to calm your panic attacks in the long run.

Discovering a relaxation technique that will calm your breathing and force you to settle down can be a key ingredient in controlling the worst part of a panic attack. Enrollment in a yoga class, which can teach you various meditation and breathing techniques can go a long way in preventing future attacks.

It can seem as if alcohol or other drugs serve to relax you, but in the long run they can make your anxiety worse and cause more problems than they are worth.

If none of these other steps work in controlling your panic symptoms, then you might want to talk with your doctor about medication alternatives. There are many different prescription drugs that can help reduce your anxiety while you learn new. While it is not good to become needy on this type of medication, if you need immediate help in calming yourself after an attack, this seems to be the wisest choice.

The Causes of Migraine Headaches

August 6, 2009 by Marion Jones

Headaches of any type are always painful to the sufferer. However, some headaches, such as migraines, for instance, can cause even more problems than just a headache. These problems could be nausea, light sensitivity and a banging pain in the head. Sometimes the headache acts on one side of the head, and other times you can feel the pain on both sides of the head at the same time.

The real causes of migraine headaches has not yet been found, although there are some theories why we have migraine headaches. The most common theory is that a change in the blood flow within the brain is one of the triggers that causes migraine headaches. Another theory about migraine headache is that it could possibly be caused by pain sensing chemicals called neuropeptides.

Many medical professionals speculate that neuropeptides ease the muscle that surrounds the cranial blood vessels. This relaxation makes the blood vessels dilate. Then those relaxed blood vessels increase the flow of blood and other cranial fluid to the brain. This increase in fluids is thought to be the cause of migraine headaches.

These cranial fluids are the cause inflammation, pain, sensitivity, tissue and blood vessel inflammation during the time of the migraine headaches. Some people think that the aura that is sometimes seen during a migraine headache is caused by the constriction of the blood vessels that became dilated during the starting phase of the migraine headache.

Another theory about the reason for migraine headaches has been associated with the genetics of inheritance. These theories say that a child of migraine sufferers will have a 50% probability of having migraine headaches too.

The chances of inheriting migraine headaches become even greater if both parents are known to suffer from this painful type of headache. Should both parents be known to have frequent migraine headaches the chances of the child inheriting migraine headache symptoms is about 70%.

Even though many professionals are persuaded that inheritance plays a big role in migraine headaches, the genes that are considered to be the causes of migraine headaches have not been identified or even isolated yet. When we start to experience migraine headaches the only warning signs that we may expect to receive are a throbbing pain in the temple area and slight sickness.

As the symptoms of the migraine progresses, the pain becomes much more severe. Unfortunately, since the causes of migraine headaches have yet to be found and we don’t know what triggers these attacks, there are no medications to cure this kind of headaches yet.

The Most Powerful Solution to Anxiety

August 1, 2009 by Cindy Locher, CHT

Hint: You already have what you need to end your anxiety.

Thats right, you already have in your possession the most effective cure to your anxiety issues. The very cause of your anxiety is also the cure: your brain.

Why is this true? Because anxiety doesnt come from out there. It is not a disease that infects your body and therefore requires drugs or other intervention to resolve. Anxiety stems from fear, and in fact is just another way to say fear. Granted, it is fear on steroids, it is ungrounded, unwarranted fear, but it is still fear.

What happens when you have anxiety, or fear? The mind speeds up, literally. The frequency of your brains operation revs up, in some cases doubling its speed. The amygdale is triggered, which creates a cascade of chemicals all designed to prepare your body for fight or flight. If you have anxiety, chances are great that your amygdale is hyper-sensitive. Which means that you often dont even know WHY you are reacting. Have you ever had a panic attack and not known why? This is so frightening to people. Your mind knows why, though. Something in your environment triggered your fear response. Studies have shown that the amygdale will respond to a frightening picture flashed so quickly on a movie screen that the conscious mind does not have time to see and interpret it.

Naturally then, if anxiety is caused by the brain speeding up and the amygdale reacting, the best resolution to this is to train the brain to slow down, and train the amygdale to react more slowly, which will give your conscious, logical mind time to understand what is happening and make a good decision regarding whether or not the situation really deserves a fight or flight response. This allows you to feel IN CONTROL of your emotional reactions. Fortunately, there is a way to do this naturally, without prescriptions. Medical science has known about it for decades, and it has proven to provide a degree of relief for thousands. Its called brainwave entrainment.

Brainwave entrainment helps to reduce feelings of anxiety, in frequency, duration, and severity, by training the mind to run at a slower speed, and by slowing down the speed with which the amygdale reacts. These same benefits are gained by meditating, but that requires enough understanding of meditation to ensure that you are reaching the desired brainwave frequencies for the desired length of time during your meditation. If you dont have the knowledge and training to ensure that, then brainwave entrainment recordings are an excellent solution. The protocols that address anxiety have been proven in numerous studies over several decades, so when you use a properly produced brainwave entrainment recording designed for anxiety reduction, you know that there is no guesswork involved. You need only listen to the recording and allow yourself to relax for 30 to 60 minutes a day.

Want a drug-free way to reduce your anxiety? Try brainwave entrainment recordings. There are no negative side effects, they are scientifically proven to work through years of research, and they work with the natural processes of your brain.

Emotional Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder

August 1, 2009 by Chris St. Pierre

There are different types of anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and many others. However, these different classifications of anxiety disorder all exhibit common physical effects and emotional symptoms.

The primary symptoms associated with all anxiety disorders is excessive, even irrational fear or worry about a particular situation, place or thing. However, the following emotional symptoms can also be present, and can occur frequently, or become a part of the person’s personality:

1. Expecting the worst. Anxiety disorder sufferers mostly have a negative disposition. In other words, sufferers are in a cycle of negative thinking, which further worsens the problem and leads to depression.

2. Agitation or restlessness. Anxiety disorders often leave the person feeling uneasy or uncomfortable in certain situations. In some cases, the sufferer may experience constant restlessness even when trying to relax at home. This is because they have gotten into the habit of maintaining a heightened sense of awareness, and may have become particularly sensitive to even the slightest changes in their environment.

3. Under constant tension. People with anxiety disorder might feel they are “jumpy” on a regular basis. The United States National Mental Health Information Center at mentalhealth.samhsa.gov states that people with anxiety disorders may be “trapped in a pattern of repeated thoughts and behaviors such as counting or hand washing” to relieve tension.

4. Watching for threats and dangers. A person may pay extra attention to signs of dangers and threats. Additionally, they will be extremely cautious in doing something and going somewhere to avoid scary situations.

5. Difficulty Focusing. Anxiety disorders drain much of a person’s ability to focus and concentrate. This can cause a person to struggle remaining in one place to study, write, or complete any other task. The symptoms may point to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but in most cases, the real culprit is an anxiety disorder.

6. Irritability. Many people suffering from anxiety disorders do not get enough rest or sleep, and this can make them especially irritable or aggravated throughout the day. They may become irritated by slight changes in their schedule or routine, and can become overly sensitive to everyday situations. This can be improved with adequate rest and stress relief methods, but these habits will take time to develop.

The emotional impact of anxiety disorders can negatively affect people’s life, jobs, and relationships. Identifying these symptoms is just the first step in finding the most appropriate treatment for a person suffering from an anxiety disorder.

Do You Have Anxiety?

July 30, 2009 by Eyal Mizrachi

Anxiety is a common emotion we have all experienced. At some stage in their life every individual will feel anxious when faced with a difficult situation. Sweating, increased heart rate, shallow breathing, butterflies in the stomach, and a dry mouth, are typical symptoms of anxiety.

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms.

Anxiety is a feeling of apprehension or fear. The source of this uneasiness is not always known or recognized, which can add to the distress you feel.

An anxiety disorder is a serious mental illness in which worrying is chronic and constant. When worry is continuous, it can result in unpleasant physical symptoms, such as obsessive thoughts, panic, heart palpitations, restlessness, and shortness of breath.

Anxiety is considered a problem when symptoms interfere with a person’s ability to sleep or otherwise function. Generally speaking, anxiety occurs when a reaction is out of proportion with what might be normally expected in a situation.

Anxiety is a feeling of fear or anticipation. While anxiety is a natural response to some situations, it can develop into a debilitating disorder in some people. There are several types of anxiety disorders, but they all have the common symptoms of excessive, irrational fear and dread.

Anxiety is a normal part of life and in fact is necessary to help us avoid danger or perform at our best. For some people however, the feelings of anxiety can be much more extreme and become what’s known as an anxiety disorder.

There are currently five anxiety disorders recognized as distinct diagnoses: panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.

An Anxiety Symptoms Test Can Reveal If You Are Part Of The Increasing Number Of Anxiety Disorder Victims

July 29, 2009 by Ron G Smith

It seems odd but in these modern times anxiety disorders are on the rise. When I say anxiety disorders you can group panic disorders & panic attacks & anxiety attacks together. They are mostly one and the same.

Is there a reason for the escalation in people suffering these debilitating attacks? I’m sure there is & I’m sure the scientific community will happily produce a number of factors they see as responsible. It doesn’t make them any less serious or frightening for the victim.

These anxiety disorders have a wide range of symptoms & you may not even be aware you are a sufferer. None of us are born sufferers but when they strike they strike suddenly and with venom. You can get a clearer picture of whether you might be a sufferer by taking an anxiety symptoms test.

Anxiety symptoms tests usually involve checking yes or no to a series of simple questions. You can then add up your score and read the advice given. After reading your score you can take the assistance given and seek further help to fight back against these attacks.

You might find a couple of the anxiety symptoms test questions to be a bit simple. Nevertheless they aren’t, they are in there for a purpose. It all hangs on which particular question you tick. You might tick 2 or 3 unimportant questions but then again you might tick only 1 very important one.

Take the question “Do you find it hard to sit still, and need to fiddle”. I often feel like this but I don’t see it as a warning symptom. But stick it together with a “yes” for the question about racing heartbeat & shortness of breath and you might well have a problem. If you suspect you may be experiencing symptoms go & take a test right now.

You might even be relieved to learn that this is what’s been bothering you for a while. If you are a sufferer, rest assured there is help at hand. Anxiety attacks can be beaten in several ways.

My wife suffered panic attacks while driving for a while until we discovered a cure in a product called PanicAway. After trying many other treatments & remedies this is the only product that worked.

Available Anxiety Treatment Options

July 11, 2009 by Eric Olivea

Identifying the symptoms of anxiety disorder is just the first step towards a solution to the problem. Finding a suitable treatment for the patient is the next step. Treatment may include medication, nutritional supplementation, dietary change, and behavioral therapy. MedicineNet.com explains “if no physical illness is found, (the patient) may be referred to a psychiatrist or psychologist who is specially trained to diagnose and treat mental illnesses”. They add that medication and cognitive-behavioral therapy is usually combined to treat generalized anxiety disorder.

Here are some of the most common anxiety treatment options available for people suffering from generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and other anxiety problems:

1. Cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders. Recognizing the triggers of a panic attack, or identifying the root cause of an anxiety attack can be part of cognitive behavioral therapy treatment programs. This type of treatment allows the sufferer to work with a licensed professional to identify the troublesome thoughts, behaviors and patterns to see where they may be behaving in an irrational or inappropriate way.

2. Anxiety medication. Several types of prescription drugs have proven to be effective for treating anxiety disorders, and the type and dosage varies by person and condition. The most common types of medication prescribed to those with anxiety disorder are a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines. These drugs have a tranquilizing effect on the body, and include drugs such as Valium, Librium, Xanax and BuSpar.

3. Antidepressants. Many people suffering from anxiety disorders also experience symptoms of depression. In some cases, treating the depression can alleviate many of the effects of the anxiety disorder. Antidepressants such as Effexor and Paxil can help improve the mood, reduce tension and make the person feel more balanced.

4. Lifestyle change. A change in lifestyle is sometimes needed to alleviate most effects of anxiety disorder. People under chronic stress are advised to maintain a regular exercise regimen and meditation practice. Cardiovascular activities, such as yoga and pilates, improve blood and oxygen circulation thus making a person feel centered and more relaxed.

5. Nutritional supplements. For people who have difficulty sleeping or calming down, nutritional supplements such as Valerian extract, chamomile and lavender can help to reduce tension and induce sleep naturally. These supplements may be most effective for people with mild symptoms and brief episodes of chronic anxiety.

6. Change in diet. Depending on what you eat, your diet can either increase or reduce the risk of panic attacks. Sugary foods may enhance the symptoms of anxiety because it increases our heart rate and stimulate our nerves due to a sharp increase in energy. Healthy foods actually reduce the risk of panic attacks since they keep our bodies energy levels stable. Choose healthy foods such as milk, oats, yogurt, and lentils to help you calm down. This type of treatment often involves making minor dietary changes on a regular basis.

It is important to explore available treatment possibilities to eliminate the symptoms of anxiety disorders. It is even more important for a sufferer to work with a qualified health professional in creating an anxiety treatment plan as a short and long-term solution.
