That which does not kill us, makes us stronger. That’s a great quote when wanting to lend support to someone after a negative experience. It is however, especially in my line of work, mis-leading. I believe it would be more accurate to say, That which does not kill us right away, can still kill us in little ways, every day.
Yes for those who know my personality, that’s a bit dark. The point Im stressing today is that just because one hasn’t suffered a major trauma such as head injury, near drowning, stroke or heart attack, it doesn’t mean ones body is immune to oxygen deprivation.
Its generally accepted for each minute the brain goes without oxygen, there is a 10% increase damage caused. After 3-5 minutes however, ones chances of survival are greatly diminished.
The type of injury can also be a factor. You still get some blood to the brain, if your drowning compared to if you were in a choke hold and getting no blood and therefore, NO oxygen to the brain. In which case, death could occur within seconds.
Other factors such as environmental can occur, which isn’t generally accepted. The effects may not be immediate or even noticed at all at first, but can cause the body to deliver reduced and/or polluted oxygen to the brain and body.
Heart disease, known as the “silent killer” is an excellent example of this. Damage to the heart can occur for years before it is known, via chest pains, heart attack, etc. Organs work together and when one of the major organs fails to operate at a proper level, all of the organs can suffer.
If high blood pressure has caused the heart to enlarge, then this has affected the muscle and is more than likely causing the heart to not pump blood properly to the other organs, including the brain.
Sleep apnea could be another example. Mild sleep apnea or snoring can cause extreme tiredness and overeating ” due to the fact that the body will try to get its energy from somewhere. While moderate to severe apnea can definitely cause high blood pressure and other negative health issues.
The weight increase on its own can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and other health issues, and associated psychological issues, over time.
Pollution is another example but a little scarier to me because barring any congenital or genetic health disorders, this is the one arena I feel I have the least control. While we may disagree to what extent our earth is being polluted, I don’t think anyone will disagree that pollution is occurring.
Lack of sun and the earths population dwelling underground can have a very real adverse affect to our health, like seen in some sci-fi movies.
Studies now abound that more cancers, viral infections and other diseases are occurring and not just due to population increase. This pollution affects the oxygen molecules being delivered to our brain and other vital organs.
My programs are all natural, safe and most importantly, these breathing and relaxation exercises work! Before you decide that we are fated to ill health, I want you to consider my programs. I have had great success with the following programs which are aimed at producing vital oxygen to the brain and body: High Blood Pressure, Alzheimers (coming soon!),Weight Loss Breeze, Migraine and Headache Relief, Vertigo and Dizziness and Stop Snoring.

Not very long ago, the only individuals using heartbeat monitors were health care professionals. But in the last few years they have become much more common to an individuals fitness plan.
Some readers might be wondering what exactly a heartbeat monitor does. Basically it is a device that monitors your hearts activity during physical activity, allowing you to maximize the results of your fitness program.
When deciding which heartbeat monitor to purchase you will find many options available to you. Some will target individuals that simply want to increase there fitness level, while other devices will target competitive athletes.
You will also find that the features included in heartbeat monitors vary depending on the price range you look at. At the lowest end, you will likely only see your heart rate displayed. While at the high end you will such features as heart beat zone alarms, amount of calories burned, and a targeted heart beat rate feature are just a few of the features you may find in a higher end heartbeat monitor.
In my opinion the most important factor in your choice will be how comfortable you are when using your heartbeat monitor. No amount of fancy features will be worth not being able to understand how to take advantage of all those features. So make sure you choose one that you can understand how to operate.
Finally you will need to decide if your fitness program really needs a heartbeat monitor. Keep in mind most modern cardio equipment such as treadmills and elliptical trainers come with these devices built into the equipment. If you do decide to purchase a heartbeat monitor ensure you get one of good quality. As good quality accurate results will be very important to your fitness level.

Using one’s hands on the job is important for success in most careers. Some jobs require workers to use their hands more than others, for example, word processing or data entry in an office, or manual labor like construction. Using your hands is necessary to accomplish important job-related work, whether this involves creating a spreadsheet, using a screw driver, or compiling reports. This is why carpal tunnel syndrome can be such a devastating condition.
Many of us completely disregard our hands and wrists. We tap away at our keyboards, without a thought for proper positioning or ergonomics. For example, many people put unnecessary pressure on the wrists or lean forward on the elbows. For those who do manual labor, poor posture while performing tasks like drilling, hammering, or sanding can lead to exhaustion. A few hours of this won’t cause long term problems, but unfortunately, performing these same repetitive tasks day after day can eventually lead to carpal tunnel symptoms.
You might be wondering what exactly carpal tunnel syndrome is. In simple terms, this condition occurs when the median nerve inside the wrist is compressed. This happens when the transverse carpal ligament is tightened and stressed due to repetitive injury. This ligament is what gives you support and leverage to move your hands and wrists. The resulting inflammation presses on the median nerve, causing pain and limited mobility in the hands. Carpal tunnel can have a devastating effect on one’s quality of life, robbing a person of the ability to function optimally without experiencing significant pain.
So what are the symptoms of carpel tunnel syndrome? Let’s just say this, if you have carpal tunnel syndrome, you will know about it. Symptoms can range from pain in the hands and wrists to pain radiating up through the forearm. Fingers or hands can feel cold or numb and uncomfortable. The worst case scenario for some is the loss of use of the hands or fingers! But even then, there are other symptoms that may be related to carpal tunnel. As you develop the condition, your body will adjust it’s position to make your hands and forearms more comfortable. This can cause straining in the back, legs and shoulders. You could even develop headaches or back problems!
You’ve probably had one or two of these symptoms before and haven’t thought too much about them, but they can be the beginnings of a very serious problem that could keep you from working. So what solutions are available? The first solution that many people think about is surgery. Carpal tunnel surgery involves the cutting of the transverse carpal ligament and can lead to even more complications down the road.
Instead, you should direct your energies toward targeted stretches and exercises that are designed to relieve carpal tunnel symptoms. All you need to do is stand at intervals throughout the day. Stretch your whole body to relax your muscles and loosen up your arms. Gently stretch the wrists forward and backward to loosen the transverse carpal ligament. For best results, stop after every few hours of work to stretch and exercise your hands. This will help interrupt the repetitive motions of the work day and provide your body with relief by not staying in any one position for too long.
Many CTS sufferers find that stretches and exercises are a great way to relieve the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. This alternative is certainly preferable when compared to a complicated and expensive surgery.
What are carpal tunnel symptoms? Carpal tunnel symptoms, quite simply, is the squeezing of the median nerve at the wrist where the transverse carpal ligament has become tightened and stressed.. Check carpal tunnel exercises to minimized this symptoms .
Mail this postLose Weight by Staying Motivated with Diet and Exercise

Millions of people go on diets each year to lose weight and get in better shape. Unfortunately, only a small percentage of these people achieve any kind of lasting results. Starting a diet is easy, sticking with it is much more difficult.
Much like diets, the same things can be said about exercise programs. Many people start them each year only to give up rather quickly and go back to their old habits and lifestyle.
In order to see lasting and life-changing effects from a diet and/or exercise program, there needs to be consistency that leads to the development of positive habits to replace the negative habits. To get to the point where that consistency builds the habits, you will need a great deal of motivation to stick with it through challenges and discouragements.
This article serves as a reference that will discuss several different things you can do to help yourself be able to achieve and maintain a level of motivation that will keep you going.
1. Take Pictures of Yourself Before the Diet or Exercise Program
Some diets and exercise programs encourage participants to take photos of themselves before starting the program. This can help to keep you motivated in a few ways. First, it’s often easier for us to see how out of shape we are by looking at a photo of ourselves. Second, it gives us the goal of working towards the point of being able to take an after picture that will be more like how we want to appear.
2. Record Your Progress
Keeping track of how you are progressing can be key to maintaining motivation. While you will be losing weight and getting in better shape, the result usually seem somewhat slow. However, with consistent effort, those results are likely to be very impressive when you look at the change from before and after. Having it in written form will show you that you are making progress that you might not notice otherwise.
3. Set Goals
If you set goals for your diet or exercise you can always look at where you are compared to that goal, and it should serve as motivation to keep going. In order for goals to be effective, you’ll need to make sure that you will easily be able to measure to see if you have met the goal, and it should be attached to a specific deadline or target date.
4. Workout with a Partner
If you want to increase your motivation for staying consistent with an exercise program, start working out with a friend. By having a partner you will both be accountable to each other, and no one wants to let their friend down. The progress of your partner can also serve as added motivation for your own workouts.
5. Join a Group of Dieters
Diet groups like Weight Watchers are effective because there is some added motivation in being part of a group. Wanting to make a good showing at a weigh in can help to keep you from breaking your diet. By being unified with others who have similar goals, you can all benefit from the others in the group.
6. Have a Reason Why You are Dieting and Exercising
Since motivation is such a critical part of achieving lasting success with a diet or exercise program, it’s important that you know specifically why you are willing to make the sacrifices and what it is that keeps you going. We all have different reasons and things that keep us going through difficult times, so be sure that you know exactly why you are doing what you are doing.
Crystal Wells enjoys writing about the things she has learned through her own weight loss journey. She blogs about dieting. Her blog includes a review of Weight Watchers.
Mail this postAll The Hoopla Over Finding The Best Weight Loss Supplement

Today’s society does not look favorably on those of us who are overweight and struggling to lose the extra pounds, so not only are we caught in a social vise of being looked down upon but also we are in a constant search for the best weight loss supplement that can magically end our torment and get us to the point where we can love ourselves and be welcomed by all areas of society. Many of us go off the deep end in our search, and we fall for the latest and greatest gimmick that happens to be on the market that day, hoping it will be the answer we are looking for.
Weight loss and all the products associated with it is a huge industry in the marketplace today. Especially in the USA where such a large percentage of the population is overweight; the sales of weight loss products is astronomical because most of them do not work and we keep on looking for the next savior coming down the pike; so we buy and buy thinking that the best weight loss supplement lies just around the corner and this time, by gum, it will work.
There is a whole world of weight loss products out there touting all kinds of ways to rev up your metabolism or block fat and all vying for the contents of your wallet. There are fat blockers, fat burners, appetite suppressants, metabolism boosters, energy boosters, diuretics—-even green tea; all saying that they are the best weight loss supplement and will turn you into a slim, vibrant personality in just a short amount of time. The sad fact is that so many people are desperate to believe these claims and want to lose all this weight that they have been packing on for years in just a few weeks, that the sales just keep escalating because those same people do not check the facts closely and go by word of mouth. They figure if it works for her/him then it should work for me too and I’ll just give it a try—–the problem with that thinking is, that no two metabolisms run alike, and there are also long term side effects that don’t show up right away, sometimes not for years where damage has been done to the body because of the unnatural effects of these so called miracle weight loss products.
There are many online sites on the Internet, that can give you information on what the best weight loss supplement would be for your needs in particular, especially if you are pregnant. Many of these sites have done extensive research into the pros and cons of weight loss supplements, and the general consensus is that most of what is out there is a lot of hooey, and a waste of your hard-earned money, plus, a lot of them are dangerous and can wreak havoc with your health. The Mayo Clinic has a very extensive website with research findings for the general public, and the results can be an eye opener for most people.
There is a certain way that our bodies are designed to run metabolism wise, and trying to make them speed up so that weight loss is guaranteed is a mistake and in some ways can be detrimental to your overall health. And another factor to remember is that because the people looking for help for quick weight loss or for the best weight loss supplement are quite often desperate, there are tons of scam artists out there ready to pounce on anyone who falls for the false claims made by many of the unscrupulous dealers in these products. A giant bell should go off in your head when a weight loss product claims that you will lose 10 lbs a week or more by using their product, because the only way that will happen with the way your body is designed to function, is if you are put into a position of being sick or traumatizing the body so it becomes out of whack and begins to lose weight. These claims of quick, dramatic weight loss are usually scams and should be avoided at all cost. Suffering from the shakes, sweats, nausea and heart palpitations is not a healthy way to lose weight.
Newsflash: the best weight loss supplement is not some new berry discovered in the wilds of the jungles of Africa, or some weird cactus with magical powers to keep you from ever wanting to eat again—–no, the best way to lose weight and keep it off long term, is to adopt an eating plan that is made up of low calorie, low fat foods that includes an exercise program so you are taking in less calories than you are using, and in this way, your body functions as it is supposed to and you lose weight.
All in all, it just makes good common sense that instead of a frantic search to find the best weight loss supplement that may be a scam or at the very most, not what it is cracked up to be; it is in your best interest to find a weight loss program that combines exercise and sensible low calorie eating, and lose the weight over a long period of time. The quick loss plans do not work as far as keeping weight off, and in many instances they are dangerous to your physical health because they artificially speed up your metabolism and in doing so, they tax your heart and your kidneys and can cause permanent damage to your body.

Mail this postDiscount Jogging Strollers For Sale – 3 Tips To Purchasing Discount Jogging Strollers
August 24, 2009 by Rachel M. Adams
Having to raise a baby is expensive already considering clothes, foods and toys so getting used jogging strollers can save a lot of money. There are a number of factors that need to carefully be considered as the last thing you want is bringing home a junk stroller. Here are 3 important tips to getting you started before purchasing discount jogging strollers.
1. Know what type and model you want
Do a little shopping around so you have a rough idea of what type and model you want by comparing different brands together so you know exactly what to expect. In addition, it also lets you know what additional features or accessories you will need. A front wheel that swivels is recommended for urban environments for better maneuverability whereas a fixed front wheel is better suited for bumpy terrains for better stability.
2. The stroller needs to be in good condition
Be sure to thoroughly inspect the item and ensure that it is in good condition where it won’t break on you. Be sure to check that the tires still have plenty of tread and that the hand brake properly works. Before you finalize the purchase, make that you are able to inspect the stroller in person otherwise ask for close up photos and ask detailed questions.
3. Finding discount prices at the following places
Finding discount prices on strollers from BOB to Schwinn are just a matter of knowing where to check and what to look for. Finding discount prices is as simple as shopping at online retail stores and auction sites so you can easily compare prices on a wide selection of available models. Another place to look is shopping at the end of the year at local department stores for items on clearance.
Purchasing stuff for your baby can be expensive so saving a little money can go a long way. Be sure to take these 3 factors into consideration the next time you purchase a brand new or even a used jogging stroller.
Mail this postDefensive Basketball Drills and Advice
August 24, 2009 by Phil Canter
Have you heard that “Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships?” I hope so, because it is true. You look at all teams and it holds water. This is because offense might not show up because shots sometimes do not go in, but defense does. Defense is always there for you no matter what if you put the hard work in.
Then why is it that people never practice there defense? You always see them practicing their shooting, dribbling, or passing, but never defense. Some people say it is because they are too flashy to practice defense, but I say it is because individual defensive basketball drills are out there. That is what you will now find below to make you into the player your coach will always put in to shut down the opposing team’s best player.
Drills that will help with your quickness:
Lines- Jumps back and forth, or side to side over any line on the basketball court. Do this with one foot, or with both feet. When doing this, you want little quick jumps.
.Dots- In this drills, make 5 dots. Have 4 in a square and 1 in the middle so that they will look like an x. Do every combo jumping dot to dot on them. Do this with each foot or both feet.
Bounding- This drill trains you to bound on defense and not just run everywhere. Start this drill out on one foot and then jump as far as you can in a random direction an another direction landing on your other foot. Keep on doing this, but only do it for a short period of time. You are wanting to train your muscles to be explosive so go hard for a short amount of time.
Different Game Situations
Shuffle- Use the push slide step technique, and never overlap your feet. The push slid step technique is push with one leg, then slide the other one next to it, and then step back to where you started. It is that simple. To do this, go from the end of the lane to the other while staying in your defensive stance. Your defensive stance is having one hand inches from the ground and one hand up in someone face. The one hand up is to be distracting the player ready to block his shot or get a hand in the face while the low hand is being pesky and is the hand preventing the crossover ready to steal the ball and therefore making the playing you are guarding to go the direction you want him to go while making him uncomfortable.
Closing Out- Start on the baseline and put a cone at the three point line as an imaginary person. Run at it and then shuffle when you get close with your but down and hands up being ready for the shot and drive. Make sure you do this like it is a game or you will be sloppy in the game like you are right now while practicing.
Ball Drill- Shuffle along the wall while passing it off the wall at the same time back to yourself. Remember in all these drills the most important thing is to stay in your defensive stance at all times and that it is about technique, not how fast you go.
