About Kali

Kali Ma is the first of the 10 mahavidya, or wisdom goddesses in the tantric tradition. A ghastly sight indeed, she will send shivers down the spine of most who do not yet know her mysterious ways. Now to a few words about resonance. But once you have understood her deeper meaning her grace will reveal itself to you.

The law of Resonance

The main teaching of Tantra is the law of Resonance. This law is deeper and more profound than the law of attraction which is on everybodies lips after the movie ‘the secret’ came out.

The universe consists of energy which vibrates with different frequencies. Energies with the same frequency will attract one another and start to ‘resonate’ together. In this process information is exchanged between the two energies.

During the day we move through different resonance spheres or areas and our moods and feelings react accordingly. If we are in a place where there is an ‘angry’ resonance we will also become angry if we have the energy of anger within us. The energy of anger in the place and our energy of anger will start to ‘resonate’ with each other.

If we go to a football game where the energy is wild and excited we will also become wild and excited. If we go to a peaceful and calm place we will also become peaceful.

A similar resonance can exist in a landscape, a color, in a room etc. If the resonance is the same for these different mediums we will start to feel the same resonance no matter if we were in the landscape or in the room. Music is the most powerful resonator as it can very precisely convey a certain feeling or mood.

To illustrate the point, if you listen to heavy metal for instance, the chances are likely that you will enter into a mood of anger, power, frustration and destruction. You will enter into a process of resonance with the anger and hatred of the people who made the music and the people who listen to it.

Likewise if you meditate on beautiful music you will resonate with states of beauty and harmony and with all the people that listen to that music.

A very quick way to go into a specific mood or state in meditation is to start by listening to music which embodies that state. Music is extremely efficient in jump starting our desired mood.

Applying resonance in art

In the creation of music or any art form it is of utmost importance to actively study that subject which you wish to create your music on. You have to contemplate the subject and to immerse yourselves in the moods inherent in that subject. In this way a process of resonance starts filling you up with similar resonances.

By contemplating on the object/subject upon which you wish to create your artwork and through resonance you will thereby become a better channel for the art. The resonance will impregnate the art and will thereby be conveyed to those who in turn contemplate the art. This is the secret to creating masterpieces.

Applying resonance to make music with Kali

Contemplation upon Kali will lead you to pondering the mysteries of life, death and time. These are deep philosophical speculations which can be terrifying for those who cannot understand them.

Music with Kali will then also convey this aspect of terror. This can be done through deep drones and strong percussive rhythms. In this kind of music it also has an effect to use minor tonalities or Arabian/Indian modes with a flat nine to give an aura of mystique.

Ultimately Kali will lead the worshipper to a higher state of being, leading to an opening of the heart when the ephemeral has been surpassed and a deeper understanding of life and death has been attained. This opening of the heart can be given through large strings sections and melodic lines which lead from down and up.
